User Experience Design for a Web Application
Merck & Co.
Client: Merck & Co.
Challenge: With thousands of samples and detailed plans for data analyses, Merck needed to create a custom sample management system and asked Pixel Theory to support the user interface design and user interaction.
Services provided: User interviews | Prototyping | Design | Testing | Training
Results: Pixel Theory worked with a small team to gather requirements, create HTML-based prototypes, and design the user interface specifications for the web-based tool. In addition, Pixel Theory provided documentation and led training as the tool was launched to its user base.
Client quote: “Marita is amazing. She has juggled multiple roles and tasks on a critical project with enthusiasm, speed and depth. Marita has contributed business analysis and process mapping, requirements gathering, user interface concept development and design, and has provided valuable project 'glue.' I couldn't have delivered my project without her.”

“Pixel Theory helped transform and capture a very complex and intricate genomic scientific process into a single software system for managing our multi-million dollar contracts with contract research organizations. They created interactive prototypes, wireframes, and system workflows, and turned them into easily understood specifications and interface designs for the software team. This has resulted in an easy-to-use software system, improved efficiency of the business process, and an intuitive interface for the end user.
I highly recommend Pixel Theory and applaud them for their user-centered approach to complex cross-functional problems. The focus on the interface between the user and the software systems is the most critical piece of enabling business processes and Pixel Theory tackles this head-on with great success.”
